2012 IECC - New Energy Code Approved

Posted by

New Energy Code Approved

In July the State Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) approved the International Energy Conservation Code 2012 (IECC 2012) with MA amendments as the new baseline energy code, effective August 16, 2013. An unofficial version of these amendments may be found at Building Code/BBRS .

These new regulations will run concurrently with the current energy regulations until July 1, 2014. During the concurrency period either set of energy regulations can be used when applying for a building permit. Starting July 1, 2014, the current regulations will expire and the new regulations must be used when applying for a building permit.

The new energy regulations apply to buildings covered by both volumes of the code (IRC and IBC), however, they do not apply to buildings in municipalities that have adopted the Stretch Energy Code. For those communities the current Stretch Energy Code remains in effect until further notice.
